Ada email datang dari seorang teman, si teman baru saja lulus universitas dalam
bidang IT. Sebagaimana anak-anak IT lainnya, si teman juga cukup gesit dengan
mengambil training Cisco, kelas malam yang mungkin dimulai Feb/Mar 2009 nanti.

Catatan: Nasihat klasik untuk para freshgrad, untuk menghindari stress
berkepanjangan saat menunggu lowongan pekerjaan ada baiknya untuk mengambil
kursus, part-time atau aktivitas positif lainnya.

Nah masalahnya baru muncul ketika si teman mendapatkan tawaran dari 2 perusahaan
secara bersamaan, satu perusahaan sebagai SAP Support sementara satu lagi
sebagai IT Support (Maintain Server & Network)

Kira-kira emailnya seperti ini, panjang sekali sebenarnya saya singkat:
“…Jika saya di terima menjadi SAP support, apakah cisco training tersebut dapat
memberatkan saya jika nantinya saya kerja jadi SAP support, tapi malam harinya
training cisco ? jujur, saya belum tahu job desc SAP support itu secara detail
seperti apa dan saya juga denger dari temen, dia training cisco sambil kerja
jadi network administrator. jadi dia bilang kerjanya ada hubungannya ke materi
cisco yang ia pelajari. nah kalo saya masalahnya kalo ambil lowongan SAP support
ini, apakah ada hubungannya nanti dengan materi cisco yang akan saya jalani?…”

Kemudian pertanyaannya
“…Jika mas anjar menjadi saya, dan mas anjar diharuskan memilih jika dua
lowongan tersebut di terima dua – duanya, yang mana mas anjar pilih? apakah
menjadi SAP support atau menjadi IT Support ?…”

Jawaban:
1. Coba review lagi pekerjaan mana yang lebih cocok.
Kalau Mas Iqbal memang suka dengan jaringan/cisco dan mungkin sejak kuliah sudah
banyak berkutat didalamnya maka pilihan sebagai IT support menurut saya yang
paling baik. Tapi kalau Mas Iqbal belum mengenal betul kedua-duanya, dan saya
rasa hampir semua freshgrad seperti itu skip bagian ini masuk ke pertanyaan
berikutnya

2. Pilih perusahaan yang lebih bonafid dengan jenjang karir yang lebih jelas.
Kalau masih bingung dengan SAP Support atau IT, maka selanjutnya review lagi
perusahaan mana yang menawarkan benefit lebih baik, entah gaji, karir ataupun
kesempatan belajar. Kalau masih bingung juga maka

3. Pilih perusahaan mana yang menerima lebih dahulu
Kalau sudah telanjur di perusahaan SAP support selama 3 bulan misalnya, usahakan
bertahan diperusahaan ini dulu, jangan terburu-buru pindah.
